Chinese Grand Prix
China Grand Prix Design. How did we get inspired?
With our design for the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, we aimed to capture the essence of the Shanghai International Circuit and blend it with one of the most iconic symbols of Chinese culture: the dragon.
The artwork depicts a dynamic and captivating scene: three Formula 1 cars racing down the main straight of the circuit, just past the pit exit, while seemingly under the watchful gaze of an imposing creature. This creature is none other than a Chinese dragon, a mythological figure central to both traditional Chinese and Japanese art.
The Chinese dragon combines various animal features: lobster eyes, deer antlers, a camel's nose, a dog's mouth, catfish whiskers, a lion's mane, a snake's tail, fish scales, and eagle claws. It symbolizes power and protection, traits deeply revered in Chinese culture.
To capture the essence of traditional Chinese art, we used a brush that mimics those traditionally used with Chinese ink. The technique, inspired by traditional styles, reflects the fluidity and elegance characteristic of Oriental art. The colors chosen—red and gold—not only match the Chinese flag but also hold significant meaning in traditional Chinese art, symbolizing fortune, prosperity, and power.
On either side of the artwork, we included signs announcing the grand prix in characters that imitate Chinese calligraphy, arranged vertically. This detail adds authenticity and respect for Chinese visual aesthetics, transforming the design into more than just a race representation but a piece of cultural art.
We hope this design transports you to China and lets you relive the excitement of the Shanghai Grand Prix while appreciating the rich mythology and artistic tradition of one of the world's oldest cultures.
